If your insurance company deems you not at fault and they have evidence to support it, I.E., a police report or video footage, then your insurance company will go after the at-fault party’s insurance company after your vehicle is repaired, to recover the costs of repairing your vehicle, including your deductible.

When the cost of repairs exceeds the value of the vehicle, the insurance company will consider it a total loss. At that point you have the option to
either retain the vehicle, or surrender it for salvage at which point the insurance company will send you down to the shop. You then have the responsibility to go empty the vehicle of all your belongings, take the plates and sign our total loss release form. Once you’ve completed that, you inform the insurance company and they will send a tow truck to pick up your car and take it to their salvage yard.
